Keyanna Barr
Eyes on
the future
“I want to make
a difference in everything I do,” says Keyanna Barr, a very
involved student at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. “When
I arrived at Southwestern the doors of opportunity were wide open.”
Being elected treasurer
for the student government highlighted Barr’s first year at
Southwestern. Now entering her sophomore year, this Columbia, Mo.,
native will serve as the vice president of organizations, overseeing
20 campus-to-community programs that enhance the university’s
connection with Waxahachie, Texas.
“These groups are
something I desire to see grow and hope to further relationships
with the city,” says Barr, 20.
As a church ministry
major with an emphasis in Christian education, Barr sees relationships
with community as critical and sees her experiences at SAGU as an
important element in her personal pursuits. “They encourage
me to be involved and provide me with an education that I can give
back to my community,” says Barr.
After school Barr plans
to start a Christian school that is at little to no cost for its
students. “People want to give their children a Christian
education,” Barr says, “but often they can’t afford
it. I want to be a part of solving that problem for people.”
