Assemblies
of God Theological Seminary
Hedy Hung
Multitasking
for ministry
As Hedy Hung leans back
and closes her eyes for a brief break, she feels the warm Caribbean
sun on her face. This is the perfect vacation for Hung, a student
at Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Mo. But
when Hung opens her eyes, the sun’s radiance is replaced by
the light of fluorescent tubes, mixed with the blue-green glow from
her computer screen. Surrounding her are stacks of books and papers
that read like a who’s who of theologians and Bible scholars.
She takes a deep breath, smiles and submerges herself in her studies.
“One day, I will
take that vacation,” says Hung, 49, who balances her studies
with being a mother of a teenager, a church planter and diligent
scholar.
With so many titles there
is little margin for error in time management.
“My life’s
journey is constantly relying on my connection with God,”
says Hung, who plans to make her life’s work educating Asians.
AGTS, she adds, has prepared her for such a future. “I want
to be involved in Christian education in Asia and to see more Asian
theologians and biblical language teachers trained. I desire to
see all of Asia reached for the kingdom of God.”
Since attending AGTS
she has seen what it takes to be a good instructor. So much so,
that when she goes into teaching full time she plans to emulate
her AGTS professors’ methodologies and techniques so that
one day she too can invest in her students and “prepare them
for Christian work.”
