Simple plan
The No. 1 pick
With the No. 1 pick in my fantasy football league I chose
LaDanian Tomlinson. After all, Tomlinson — running back for the San Diego
Chargers — was a can’t-miss prospect this season.
In 2006 he racked up 28 touchdowns and ran for 1,815 yards.
He also averaged 5.2 yards per carry and had three receiving touchdowns.
If he would have had similar numbers this season I might
have become champion of my league. My reward for doing so? Bragging rights.
Unfortunately for me, Tomlinson didn’t crank out the same
numbers as a year ago. Because of it, my chances of climbing out of my league’s
cellar plummeted faster than the U.S. dollar in a Belgian waffle house.
So why the meltdown?
Prognostication (a.k.a. guessing the outcome of something)
offers no guarantees — at best, it’s a 50/50 deal even if you do your
homework. In other words, you’re either right or you’re wrong.
In fantasy football poor prognostication might cost you a
game or two or three. But when eternity is in the balance, why leave anything to
chance?
Jesus says He is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John
14:6). Because of that, He takes all the guesswork away and leaves you with a
simple choice. Accept Him as Savior, or don’t. (See the ABCs of Salvation on
page 25 to find out how.)
I failed to make my league’s playoffs this season, and I’ll
be wondering what could’ve been for a long time. Don’t make the same mistake
with your life.
Choose Jesus.
