Walk by faith

May 30, 2006

By Saul Martinez

We must walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Why? Because looks can be deceiving.

Peter’s experience gives us a powerful illustration of this principle. Read Matthew 14:22-36. When Peter’s faith motivated his steps, he could walk on water at Jesus’ invitation. But when Peter looked at the storm around him, his faith evaporated and he began to sink.

Sometimes the tides and waves of life seem overwhelming. We lose our hope for the future. We stop believing God can get us through our trials.

Our constant fear and worry convince us we have finally met our demise. The truth is, we don’t truly begin to drown until we accept defeat. If we will keep our focus on Jesus and ignore the crashing waves, high winds and thundering sky, we will be victorious.

When we keep our eyes on Jesus, and on Him alone, we find in Him hope, rest, peace, joy and, most of all, His love.
