How good are you at keeping a secret?
It seems whenever someone says, “Hey, let me tell you a secret!” that ears tune in from around the world to listen to what is said. All too often the one told the secret sooner or later just has to pass it on. TV shows, talk radio, and the magazines at the checkout aisle make it their business to reach an audience wanting in on the latest juicy story. Sometimes secrets are not so secret.
Then there are those times when your intuition seems to take over and you just “know.” It’s not only just about the “surprise” birthday party or Christmas gift; sometimes you just are aware of the people around you. No one has told you anything, but you can read between the lines and figure out what is really going on in someone’s life.
“Even hell holds no secrets from God — do you think he can’t read human hearts?” (Proverbs 15:11, The Message).
Nothing, absolutely nothing is a secret to God. He knows what we are going to say before a word crosses our lips. God is aware of our choices before we choose. The Lord knows what brings us joy, and He knows that which brings us pain.
Because God knows, He is there to rejoice with us and cry with us. He will take us by the hand and help us make the right choices. And because God knows our secrets, the Holy Spirit is right there to convict us of our sin and remind us of God’s unfailing love.
But did you notice it is not just our secrets God knows? Our Heavenly Father even knows hell’s secrets. When Satan and his demons come up with an evil plan, when the devil devises a surprise attack against you, God knows all about it before the devil has a chance to make his first move. God is ready and able to protect us; the Lord will not let us be destroyed.
I’m thankful secrets are no secret with God. Because He knows everything, I am confident He will always do what is best for me. I can be at peace, even through the storms of life, all because God knows.
